WWW Wednesday: April 22, 2020

WWW Wednesday was last hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and has found a new home with Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below about how your reading is going this week and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. Don’t forget to check all the other participants. It is the #1 way I keep my TBR overflowing!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?

One better than last week!

I continue to work through both A History of the World in 100 Objects and Tap slowly but surely and they are each easy to pick up and read for a bit and then put down.

I am listening to Mockingjay as an audiobook and, even though this is a re-read for me, it is the book in the series I remember the least. Anytime I feel bad about being stuck inside this series reminds me how grateful I am that I don’t have to hunt my own food.

I am also re-reading The Princess Bride a little every night in an attempt to unwind. Re-Reads have become a source of comfort for me and have really helped me continue to escape the stress of this world for a bit through books.

I started Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil DeGrasse Tyson as an audiobook. It is only four hours long but is packed so tightly with information. Honestly, it is leaving me with more questions than answers but the spark of curiosity is a joyful one.

Finally, I started Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto. This is one of the last books for my Magical Readathon. I am only 20 pages into it but I had to tear myself away to write this post!

WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?

I finished The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae a few days ago. I really loved this memoire and it I have become low-key obsessed with Issa Rae. My only complaint is that the audiobook ended abruptly. It didn’t leave me wanting more as much as it made me feel like there was either poor editing or the author ran out of steam for writing.

I also borrowed One of Us is Next from me library (thank GOODNESS for e-loans!) and consumed this book. I loved One of Us is Lying and the author re-created the suspense and excitement all over again. I literally gasped out loud! Twice! I’m only 50 books behind on reviews but I cannot wait to write about this one.

Catching Fire was just as good the second time around. I do wish that there was more Peeta / Katniss action but maybe that is more to do with the lack of romance books in my stack than anything else this week.

I also managed to finish Doll Bones by Holly Black. I love Holly Black but I really didn’t enjoy this book. It was supposed to be a scary middle grade book but the whole thing was more of an adventure story. It was frustrating to read. The kids run away from home with a possessed doll and the whole thing just made me nervous. Interestingly, this book previously belonged to a kid and they had marked page 166 as “the scariest part.” I was so excited for the action to build to this moment but when I got there I realized that the scariest part was one kid confessing another kid’s crush. Not the scare I was expecting but can you imagine the social horror for a 12 year old??

WHAT WILL I READ NEXT?

themapofsaltandstars

I have to read The Map of Salt and Stars next (or another book that starts with “M”) to finish my Magical Readathon by the end of April.

Tell me, please!

What’s on your WWW?

    1. I had to put Crown of Feathers aside – part of my pivoting for quarantine. I’m sure I will love it but I wasn’t in the mood after the sister’s egg didn’t hatch. I either need full blown murder and poison or something lovely! Its madness at my house!

  2. I’m always impressed by all your current reads! I’ve been meaning to read Crown of Feathers, too, but I haven’t picked it up yet. Sounds like it grips you early on, and I’m glad to hear that! Also … congrats on nearly finishing all your OWLs! I’ve just got one more book to go, too, and it’s getting down to the wire. The Map of Salt and Stars is on my TBR, and I’ll be interested to see what you think of it! I have to read an M book still, too, but mine is a small one, so I can get through it in a couple hours. xD

    Here’s my WWW post.

    1. Ok so, I pivoted hard. Crown of Feathers is going to be amazing but there was drama in the first two chapters (gripping drama!) that I couldn’t get behind right now. And then I found a middle grade book that starts with “M” that I consumed and, anyway, I finished my OWLs but not like I planned. I’m a mess!

      1. What? That doesn’t sound like a mess to me. You did it! Huzzah! I still haven’t finished mine yet. xD I’m gonna buckle down and finish Deeplight either today or tomorrow, and it WILL get done, darn it haha. Congrats on completing your exams!

      1. Ohh middle grades are good for that! I’m actually doing a month of Middle grade reads next month! I have so many just piling up and there’s two readathons going on, so might as well! 🙂
