WWW Wednesday: July 15, 2020

WWW Wednesday was last hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and has found a new home with Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below about how your reading is going this week and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. Don’t forget to check all the other participants. It is the #1 way I keep my TBR overflowing!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?

I am tearing through The Poison Squad by Deborah Blum. She peppers the history with just enough I-can’t-believe-it facts that you just don’t want to stop reading.

The Pen Commandments will be finished this week and I have really enjoyed this book. It is clear, concise, and easy to apply advice for beginning writers of any age.

And I have just started Aurora Burning. I am a little afraid based on the response from other readers that I will be devastated by the ending of this one but I feel strong enough to take it!

WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?

I finished both Winterwood and Undefeated this week. Winterwood was not for me. This is no reflection on the book or the writing, I was just in no mood for how long it took for the main character to stand up for herself. In another mood it might have been a great coming of age / powers story but not right now.

Undefeated, however, is the story of the Carlise Indian School’s Football Team. Jim Thorpe was the first biography I ever read in elementary school and I will always pick up any book featuring him. I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this middle grade book that was, at its core, about the history of football. That review will be up Friday for NonFiction Friday!

WHAT WILL I READ NEXT?

Every summer I look through summer reading lists and pick a few that I have never heard of and classics that I somehow missed reading. Both A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and To Kill a Mockingbird were books I wasn’t required to read in my youth and so…I just haven’t. I have a copy of each book and I think I will crack into one of them this week.

Tell me, please!

What’s on your WWW?

  1. I’ve got Aurora Burning on audio but not sure whether to start it or wait for book 3 to come out so I don’t have some horrible cliffhanger ending then a long wait to find out what happens.

Have to confess I hadn’t read To Kill A Mockingbird until recently and, unpopular opinion, I wasn’t a fan. It’s one of those books everyone seems to love but I very nearly gave up on page 2. I’m glad to have read it but I don’t see a re read happening any time soon. Hopefully you’ll fare better.

  2. Enjoy your reading! I’m very curious to your thoughts on Aurora Burning!
I just started Elantris, so far so good!

  3. Absolutely get yourself a cup of tea and dive into To Kill A Mockingbird. It will make you aware of how much things have not changed and maybe send you out to apply to your nearest law school for a law degree.
