Frighteningly Good Reads Wrap-Up

Before I get too far into NonFiction November or Believathon I really need to wrap up my Frighteningly Good Reads for this year. I had a great month of reading scary and spooky books. MY FRIGHTENINGLY GOOD READS 2020

As you can see, my idea of “frightening” falls squarely in between spooky and suspenseful. Truthfully, Warm Bodies was the book I was most scared to read!

The Crucible and The Canterville Ghost were both excellent classics that I enjoyed this month. I read The Crucible in high school and, not only did it hold up extremely well, but the lessons and morals apply to issues surrounding social media. Meanwhile, The Canterville Ghost was shockingly funny to me and a quick short read.

I just adored my next two Enola Holmes mysteries. Both The Case of the Left-Handed Lady and The Case of the Bizarre Books brought me so much joy. I plan on asking for a copy of the whole series for Christmas but I don’t know if I will be able to wait that long before reading the fourth through sixth books. Once I am finished with the series I will review them but, don’t wait, read them!

I also read two middle grade nonfiction books. Witches! The Absolute True Tale of Disaster in Salem was a great read and a valuable one to have when looking at The Crucible. Unfortunately, without some nonfiction support, I have spent the last several decades thinking that naughty girls were the root of all the issues in Salem. I also read How They Croaked: The Awful Ends of the Awfully Famous by Georgia Bragg. This is one of those books that makes me so obnoxious. I was forever calling people and telling them how someone had died. The illustrations by Kevin O’Malley made the book even more enjoyable. While I highly recommend both of these books I somehow neglected to review them!

Finally, as part of my Dewey 24-Hour Readathon I read The Secret of White Stone Gate, The Midnight Hour, Winterhouse and Warm Bodies. Each was excellent and you can click the title for the full review. I managed to have one of those perfect days of reading where nearly every book I picked up I loved.
