A TEA PARTY, JUST FOR ME

Long ago, when I was in law school, I would get devastatingly lonely. Between school and my jobs and studying, there was not much time to socialize and, after a while, the people I talked about the most were fictional. One year, my Mom sent me a sweet little tea pot and my tea parties for one tradition was born. Whenever I need a pick me up, I set my table and make a whole pot of tea, just for me.

(Please remember that I am American and, as such, tea is not something I consume daily).

An instant photo of a white tea cup in a saucer with two green and chocolate cookies. A Pot of tea is nearby and two books.

Slowing down during the holidays is especially welcome. Taking the time to have an old fashioned tea party for one makes me feel fancy. Doing so with a book to keep me company is extra decadent. Today I flipped back and forth between How to Spell Chanukah and The Truth About Santa. I finally managed to repair the mistakes I made on the cookies from yesterday and they were delicious. And, in the off chance you think my Mom spoils me, you are absolutely correct. Yesterday I opened an early Christmas present – a fancy wooden box full of tea!

I wish I could sit and have tea with my whole family. I can only hope that we will all be together soon. In the meantime, I sat there, sipping my tea, reading my book and feeling so loved.

Tell me, please! Have you ever done this, made something fancy just for yourself?

  1. This is such a sweet tradition! Is the teapot in your photo the one your mom sent you? And what is your favorite kind of tea?

      1. I am actually not a tea person, unfortunately; I’ve ruined my palate with strong coffee. I do like sending tea in my penpal letters, though — it’s very easy to enclose in an envelope!
