WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?
I am nearly finished with the absolutely delightful Think Like a Monk. This book is excellent. I love it.
I have also picked up the biography of Milton Hershey this weekend at the library. Chocolate and philanthropy – I can’t resist!
And I am reading Greenlights because…I have absolutely no idea. This book is so ridiculous. I’m at the 30% mark and all I can think it that this book is impossible to read without hearing McConaughey’s accent in your mind.
WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?
I managed another great week of reading. It still feels like a miracle after those slumps!
I read two middle grade books. I am trying to read 4-5 since I am supposed to be helping with the Cybil Awards and I am massively behind this week. Carry me Home and Thanks a Lot, Universe were both stunningly written. How do these author’s manage it? How are they able to fit all of those feelings into these stories? SO beautiful.
I also finally managed to pick up and read How to be Lovely by Melissa Hellstern. It was….okay. It had three quotes on each page and felt like a pocket sized coffee table book. I had such high expectations for this book too!
I picked up a NonFiction graphic novel, No Small Plans from the Chicago Architecture Center. I had been really excited to read this one because it is about the rebuilding of Chicago about the Great Fire. It bounced around a lot and I didn’t love the art work. Sigh. Another disappointment. It did make me curious about the plans that were drafted that were required reading for 8th grade graduation in Chicago for years.
I had low expectations for The Gift of Fear but I loved it. If you are searching for a short nonfiction book this one was so interesting to me. My full review is here.
WHAT WILL I READ NEXT?
Since I just finished my audiobook Gift of Fear I need to pick a new one. My library has delivered not one, but three, enticing options. I’m not sure which I will pick but I am excited about all three!

I’m currently reading Saga Land by Richard Fidler and Kari Gislason, an excellent read about Iceland and the sagas, and also The End of Bias by Jessica Nordell, which has concrete examples of how organisations are working against bias. I think I’m going to do some short books next as I need to work on my Novellas in November, but also conscious I had a lot of plans for NetGalley books this month!

I finished it. If you want to read a book about a handsome white dude who did whatever he wanted to and everything worked out wonderfully every single time, this is the book for you.
