WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?

I am still reading Tap and A History of the World in 100 Things. I’m getting tired of including Tap in this category since there is no reason I haven’t finished it yet. Maybe this is the week!

I am working my way through my day with the help of two audiobooks. The Year of Less by Cait Flanders is about the 12 month period the author stopped buying things and decluttered her life. It is short, only about 6 hours, and I am nearly 1/3 of the way through. She hasn’t quite gotten into how she felt not shopping but I am excited to hear about that journey.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is for a book club and I regret getting this as an audiobook. The narrator’s voice is amazing but I think the pace would be slightly quicker if I could just read it already. As it is, the main male character is coming off very whiny. I hope to get a written copy this week.

WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?

I finished both Explorers on Witch Mountain and Explorers on Black Ice Bridge this week. This is certainly one of my new favorite middle grade trilogies. The full review is here.

I picked up and quickly read A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan. It was a sweet middle grade book that really drove home the point that perfection is not a good thing and having an imagination can save your sanity. I couldn’t tell if the story didn’t hook me or if I just needed to take a break from middle grade for a little bit, but this wasn’t my favorite read this week.

I also started Things in Jars by Jess Kidd and finished the whole book in under 24 hours. I could not put this book down. This book had upwards of twenty words I had to look up in the first 100 pages and was richly packed with imagery. It also opens with a strange little girl eating snails. Forgive me. I’m having trouble formulating complete sentences about this book. It was just so (soooooo) good. Here is the synopsis for anyone who is interested.
