Welp. What a slow stinker of a reading month.
TRAVEL READING

WHAT HAPPENED THIS MONTH
Oof. This was a rough month of reading. This is what happens when you pick a theme “to grow on” with no real interest in it. I started and abandoned a dozen books this month. It was no reading slump either – I just struggled with the books. Finally, I decided to try just traveling through books instead of reading books about traveling. This worked slightly better.
Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi was such an excellent premise of book about temporary time travel. Awesome idea – long, drawn out, detailed, boring, delivery. Still, the story stuck with me and emphasized that the power of understanding your past is immeasurable.
Wretched Waterpark is a cute premise – a middle grade bit of fun that reminded me of Lemony Snicket.
And, I finally read There, There by Tommy Orange. I have a lot of thoughts about this book and it mostly left me sad. I vastly preferred The Grass Dancer.
WHAT I LEARNED THIS MONTH
A theme is a great idea when it works for you. With this in mind, I tried to compile my next month’s theme – Food and Drink – and found little to nothing that excited me. So, I am going to change it to Books on My Shelf!

Tell me, please! How is your reading going this month?

I’m sad to hear that Before the Coffee Gets Cold was drawn out and boring. I hope it manages to resonate with me more when I get around to it. Happy reading!

I hope you enjoy it! I think I was stuck on how complicated the time travel was. Some of it was stunning though. I can’t wait to see your thoughts.

I love your theme poster so much that I STOLE it! Thank you! We still need to talk about There, There. When is our next (first) book club meeting? I’m finishing Moll Flanders and next is The Brothers Karamazov. Xoxox
