Subtitled: It is Wednesday isn’t it?
During my trip to BookCon I got the news that I would be moving. An opportunity arose and I grabbed it. Ok…not entirely true. I actually laid awake at night for a few weeks before BookCon watching Schitt’s Creek over and over again while I worried about what to do. After finalizing the decision, I grabbed the whole thing with both hands. In a little more than a month I will be moving to Chicago.
This is why I have been so behind in posting and, frankly, reading! Every time I picked up a book my ‘ol brain started worrying. And, when I wasn’t worrying, I was decluttering and packing. Since I am moving from a bigger place into a much smaller place, I was tossing things and donating them at a rate that would alarm even Marie Kondo. But I missed my books, posting, and most of all reading everyone else’s blogs so, even though July 3rd is nearly over, I am determined to get back to it. So, happy WWW Wednesday! Make sure and check out Sam’s site at Taking on a World of Words and all the other wonderful people who check in on Wednesday.
What Did I Recently Finish Reading?
All of these were the perfect stories for the worried mind. The Proposal was a fun romantic comedy, The Littlest Bigfoot was a wonderfully sweet middle grade story and Fortunately, the Milk was as much fun as anything else I’ve read by Neil Gaiman. All of them will (hopefully) be reviewed soon.
I probably read other things but things were so crazy here I even forgot to log them onto Goodreads.
What am I Currently Reading?
I’m a mess. My Goodreads keeps telling me that I have 7-9 books on my currently reading shelf and so many of them are mere chapters from completion… but I may have packed them. I don’t want to forget them though so I am leaving them there. Here are the books I have in my hot little hands this week.
Factfulness by Hans Rosling is the best and most uplifting book I have read this year. It is full to the brim with facts that prove that our world is actually better than we perceive it to be. It is a soothing balm to my anxiety driven heart. I cannot wait to finish it and read it again.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell has been on my shelf forever but I bought the mass market paperback and the print is 7 point font. Might even be smaller than that. Finally, I donated my copy and got a digital version from the library. Whew! I am not far in but it is wonderfully weird.
Finally, I am working my way through all the Neil Gaiman books I own and I am loving Norse Mythology. Great stories told by a masterful storyteller, it is truly a treat.
What Will I Read Next?
One of the books off my massive physical TBR because I cannot take everything with me but I don’t want to give up books I haven’t even had time to enjoy!
Tell me, please!
What is on your WWW?
Love your site. Glad you are going to be in Chicago. Really really glad.

Thank you! I’m excited too. Imagine all the bookstores I can find in a city that size….

Glad to see you back! Congratulations on the exciting developments.
I need to read Norse Mythology too. I bought it last year and thought it might be a great companion read while playing God of War, but it continues to languish on my shelf. I just have so many Gaiman books that I feel I need to finally read first.
Have a good week!

I tried to listen to it as an audiobook but I could not keep track of any of the characters (except Thor). I’m hoping that the print copy is easier. I’m glad to be back too and can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to!

I had a similar problem when I first tried to read a Greek mythology book before I was formally taught it. The names were so hard to remember k recalled almost none of what I read.

Congrats on the move!! I’ve only been to Chicago once (and through the airport a bunch of times) but I loved it! Good luck on what’s to come and I hope the stress over the move (ugh) abates soon! 🙂

Thank you! I thought of you because I have been so soothed by nonfiction lately and I need to keep up on everything you have been reading. I’m excited – even though I had to give away SO MANY books.

Ugh I know, I’ve been through that on moves too. It’s just the way it has to be. Now since I know I have more moves lurking in my future I’ve been better about only buying a limited amount of hard copies and more ebooks, that helps a lot. I’m so glad reading nonfiction could help!! It’s hard to find the right escapism when you have these big life-changey kind of events looming. You know I’ll always have plenty of suggestions for you!!

I thought of you when I was giving away books because I felt like you had recently gone through this and your commiserating and tips really help! I will try be more selective about what I bring home from now on because I felt like I was un-adopting them! I tried to give them all to friends at least.
You’re my #1 source for nonfiction!

It does help when you can give them to friends, but I can commiserate, it’s still so tough!! And you’re too kind! I’m glad we have so many of our nonfiction tastes in common 🤗

I hear you about how the font can ruin a book. I have had Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey on my bookshelf and I have wanted to read this book for forever, but I must have the first original version of the book. It is old, with tiny print and I can’t even get passed the first chapter. I have Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on my to read list as well – I am interested in what you think! And all of your recently reads looks great! I would pick those up too!

Thank you! I recently gave away a book unread because the print was red. Red! Who can read a whole book with red ink?!? I felt like my eyes were bleeding one page in. I hope you find your Kesey in a different platform and are able to read it. Have a great week!

Congratulations and Good Luck on your exciting move!
I’ve had Jonathan Strange sat on my shelf for at least a year now, I think closer to two. It’s just mot getting a look in amongst new stuff! I need to read Fortunately the Milk too, interested to read your review of that.

Thank you for your good wishes! I have had Jonathan Strange for at least that long. It’s hard to ignore on my shelf too because it is, like, 4 inches think. I will let you know what I think!

Moving out of state and downsizing is the pits. I just did it. I’m still recovering.

Thanks for commiserating. I go through phases where I get rid of things effortlessly and then I find myself panic packing other things. The books were hardest to give away….
