WWW Wednesday: April 15, 2020

WWW Wednesday was last hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and has found a new home with Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below about how your reading is going this week and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. Don’t forget to check all the other participants. It is the #1 way I keep my TBR overflowing!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?

Ummmm…..oops.

Last week I did so well reading and balancing life in general (relatively speaking, of course). Just look at the mess I have made of my reading list!

Tap and A History of the World in 100 Objects are two nonfiction books that I am working through deliberately chapter by chapter everyday (or, in the case of 100 objects, object by object.) So, those are progressing just as I want.

Doll Bones should have been a quick middle grade book. I was sucked immediately into this book but, fairly early in the story the kids take off on a bus in the middle of the night without adults and, I’ll admit, I couldn’t…handle that idea? Maybe? For whatever reason, it upset me more than entertained me and so I did a hard pivot into audiobook land.

The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae has been keeping me company while I clean or work out and I’ve been listening to Catching Fire while I do any hobbies at night. Issa Rae’s book is new to me and I am more than 50% through.  Catching Fire is a re-read.I am trying to limit my television watching and social media and these two audiobooks are easier to turn to than silence. I am really enjoying both of them.

Finally, I have been reading The Princess Bride before bed. I have found re-reading to be a great comfort during this time and I have a beautiful copy that I am finally enjoying.

Seriously though, this is too many books at once! I feel slightly crazy just looking at them all.

WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?

This week’s readings are all brought to you by some of the worst insomnia I have experienced in quite some time! I borrowed both The Bromance Book Club and Twice in a Blue Moon from my online library. The Bromance Book Club was such a great twist on the typical contemporary romance and I could have hung out forever with this group of caring guys.

I didn’t enjoy Twice in a Blue Moon nearly as much as I did The UnHoneymooners. I thought the authors did a wonderful job building the hate to love relationship in UnHoneymooners but failed to convince me that the dude deserved forgiveness for his massive betrayal in Twice. Sam can suck it.

WHAT WILL I READ NEXT?

I really need to crack into Crown of Feathers. It is the book I selected for my Magical Readathon. Also, I have been invited to a virtual bookclub and they are reading The Starless Sea. I haven’t heard enough positive things about this book to purchase a copy so I have decided that I will only read and join if I can get a copy from the library. Is this some semblance of self-control returning? Probably not….

Tell me, please!

What’s on your WWW?

  2. I’m impressed that you can read so many books at once! I’ve never been able to do more than tnree.

I’ve been thinking about The Starless Sea for a while now. I really liked the writing of The Night Circus so I wondered if it would feel similar!

    1. That is so good to hear! You know when you read one amazing book by an author (or authors in this case) and then a stinky one you are really left wondering how the third will go. I will check out their others! Do you have a favorite?

      1. It depends on what you are looking for. They actually write a variety of stuff. Love & Other Words is really good and emotional. They have older series that are sexier romances. Then there’s Dating You/Hating You, Roomies and some of their others that fall in between. They also have a great YA book called Autoboyography. Roomies or Dating You/Hating You might be a good place to start.

    1. You know what? I LOVE this re-branding of my massive currently reading pile. Because, honestly, I am scattered but I am loving all of these books. Thank you!

(I also couldn’t control myself and bought Starless Sea and started it last night. Thank goodness for electronic books!)

  3. Molly, I think re-reading favourites and listening to audiobooks rather than watching nerve-inducing television or social media is a great idea. 🙂 But wow, that is a lot of books to have on the go at once! I usually have about 3 on the go, but at the minute I am struggling to read 2! 😅Happy reading!

  4. Oh my goodness, I’m reading way too many books right now too, but it doesn’t compare to yours! I love how quickly you’ve pivoted when something isn’t working 🙂

  5. Wow! That’s a lot of books to read at once, I don’t know how you’re doing it…I hope you enjoy ‘The Starless Sea’, I want to get to it soon but I don’t know when I’ll have the time!

  6. Ahh, I loved the 100 objects book when I read it a few years ago — I think there was also a radio version that I’ve been tempted to listen to, because I’m sure I’ve forgotten most of the details!

I’m finding myself reading a lot of different books at the same time, but I’m taking it in stride and just trying to enjoy what I can enjoy. If something isn’t working, ah well, it can wait.

  7. Doll Bones does sound like a fabulous read, but I’m not surprised it ended up being a bit heavy. Definitely sounds like a book you have to be in the right mood to read. Oooh, I want to read Crown of Feathers, too! I can’t wait to see what you think of it! Happy reading.
