THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BOOK TAG

Lizzes Loves Books came up with these questions back in 2014. I am so happy to see more and more people participating in it because reading the answers is so much fun. This is my first time participating and it is so much fun!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE STAND ALONE OF 2020?
A family of four stands together with everyone but the girl’s face blurred for protection.

Greetings from Witness Protection! by Jake Burt is a unicorn of a middle grade book. If you can just accept that the US Marshalls would involve a minor in their protection detail the rest of the book is remarkable both for its fun and its heart.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / TWO TURTLE DOVES! LOVE IS IN THE AIR, WHO IS YOU OTP?
A brown cover with gold filigree around the edges and The Princess Bride in fancy cursive font.

I re-read my illustrated version of The Princess Bride this year and Buttercup and Wesley bring me almost as much joy as Inigo and Fezzik.

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / THREE FRENCH HENS! IN THE SPIRIT OF THREES, WHAT IS THE BEST TRILOGY YOUR HAVE READ?

Technically there is another book coming in the series, but not until next year! This middle grade trilogy brought me loads of joy and armchair adventure. I loved the characters, the friendships, the world – everything!

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / FOUR CALLING BIRDS! SINCE SERIES USUALLY CONSIST OF FOUR OR MORE BOOKS WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SERIES?

The only flaw with this series, in my opinion, is that they haven’t released the new cover of the sixth book yet! I have only read the first four, the fifth one is ready on my kindle as I type, and I can hardly wait. If you enjoyed the Netflix movie, you will love this whole series. I cannot wait to read them all again.

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / FIVE GOLDEN RINGS! ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL! WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN/ANTAGONIST?

Lilith, the witch that curses Prince Rhen and tortures everyone in his inner circle, is the absolute worst. I read this A Curse so Dark and Lonely and immediately picked up A Heart so Fierce and Broken. I can hardly wait for the third installment.

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / SIX GEESE A LAYING! CREATION IS A BEAUTIFUL THING! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WORLD/WORLD-BUILDING?
Things in Jars cover: A green and blue swirling background like wallpaper is behind a bright orange jar with the white silhouette of a girl inside.

Jess Kidd’s Things in Jars is just the most awesome, weird, wonderful book. The strange mix of historical fiction and fantasy took hold of me and held on to the last word.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING! WHO NEEDS SEVEN SWANS WHEN ALL IT TAKES IS ONE GOOD ANIMAL SIDEKICK TO MAKE A HERO ROCK! WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE ANIMAL SIDEKICK?
A red sunset frames a large Gorilla, a baby elephant, and a small dog sitting together. All three look happy and kind.

I really thought The One and Only Ivan was pretty impossible to top but I loved The One and Only Bob so much. In this book the animal sidekick becomes the true hero.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING! MILK IS SO 18TH CENTURY! WHICH BOOK OR SERIES TAKES BEVERAGES/FOOD TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL?
Two girls arms are working on a table together for the cover of A Place at the Table. One is sketching and one is baking.

A Place at the Table wasn’t just a great book about how to make and keep friends during middle grade, it was a veritable feast of foods that I wanted to have immediately. Do not read this book without ready access to excellent food because my frozen naan just didn’t cut it.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / NINE LADIES DANCING!  DANCING IS JUST ONE SKILL OF A LADY! WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE KICKASS FEMALE LEAD?
The views of an old town is dwarfed by an enormous flock of pigeons that come together to form the title: One Came Home

Georgie has everything I want in a protagonist. She is determined, honest, smart, can admit when she is wrong, and happens to be the best shot with a rifle anyone knows. One Came Home was the middle grade, historical fiction mystery, that I just cannot stop thinking about.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / TEN LORDS A LEAPING!  LEAPING LORDS? HOW ABOUT WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE LEADING LAD?
An older man with a cane and a younger boy, both dress in Victorian clothes, are walking away from the viewer on the cover of David Copperfield

I had never read David Copperfield until this year but the young David won me over and every year he grew and my love and admiration for him did the same.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME / ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING! WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT MUSIC? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OR BOOKISH THING THAT DEALS WITH MUSIC? (IT CAN BE ABOUT MUSIC, REFERENCE MUSIC A LOT ETC.)
A close up picture of a woman with long curling hair framing her face on the cover of Daisy Jones & the Six

Daisy Jones & the Six is the book that I thought I would hate because it was so hyped but it was what everyone said it would be – unforgettable.

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING: DRUM ROLL PLEASE…………………….WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE READ OF THIS YEAR

There is simply no way that I can pick only one! But, soon, I will put together my list of favorite books subdivided by category.

Tell me, please! Any suggestions for these questions for 2021 reading?
