WWW Wednesday: March 17, 2021

Bonus! Check out Chicago’s Green River! They cancelled it last year due to COVID and this year they said it was also cancelled and then they surprised everyone by dying it anyway. I ran downtown to check it out and I am always impressed by how very green they can turn this water.

WHAT AM I CURRENTLY READING?

This week finds me nearly finished with The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. This futuristic clone story is so enjoyable and the audiobook has been pure escapism these past few weeks. I am thrilled that this is a series and I only hope that the same narrator is used for all the stories.

I started Holy Sh*t, A Brief History of Swearing by Melissa Mohr earlier in the week. I enjoyed The History of Swearing on Netflix so much and this book was mentioned. I snapped it up hoping for more of the fun and interesting facts about our linguistic no-no words. I am only in the second chapter and it is….very textbook-like. This may be an interesting book but it is a struggle to read.

To alleviate my boredom I have also started Quintessence by Jess Redman. This middle grade fantasy book about Alma, her new friends at school, and a mysterious fallen star is so good I sat down and read the first half all at once. I may have no idea what is going to happen but I feel sure that I am going to enjoy it.

WHAT DID I RECENTLY FINISH READING?

The only book I finished this week I read this weekend while sitting outside. That is right! After running downtown to see the green-er river I stopped and sat in a park to read. Thank goodness I enjoyed fake Spring because winter came right back on Monday! The In-Between by Rebecca K.S. Ansari was excellent! My full review is here but this middle grade mystery starring Cooper, his sister Jess, and the creepy / mysterious neighbor was one that I just could not put down!

I also managed to get my review for The Atomic City Girls up this week. I have a lot of thoughts about this book but, mostly, I am glad to have read it because I genuinely had no idea about this part of the war effort.

WHAT WILL I READ NEXT?

After the collapse of my reading and writing in February I am determined to not over-plan. I will pick something that brings me joy!
