This week is the last week of October. Since Halloween is on a Sunday this year, we get a full weekend of spooky reading. I wanted to highlight some of the wonderful things I have been seeing people read in case you need inspiration for your week’s reading. And, since it is Top Ten Tuesday, I am going to use this week’s Halloween Freebie to highlight my top-ten places to find a great scary book to read this week.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. I participate in a very hap-hazard manner but the lists are fantastic. Literally all the ones I have seen this week have given me Halloween love! Make sure and check them all out.
TOP TEN (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
Rennie @ What’s Nonfiction has participated in Frighteningly Good Reads for years and I have come to rely on her for all my spooky NonFiction needs. I am loving her post with Unbelievable and The Zodiac Killer but also would count cult leaders as FGR and her post on Cultish and Slonim Woods is calling to me! I am (embarrassingly) intrigued by cults. I couldn’t even make it through a tour of a sorority so I feel safe from the call of a cult. That makes it the perfect amount of scary for me.
Ryan @ Muse with Me is also a frequent participant of FGR. Ryan has been doubly busy lately with other-than-book-reading endeavors but his site is absolutely perfect if you need a graphic novel or terrifying tale as Ryan reads these all year long. Check out the fantastic review of Hellboy: The God Machine or Axiom’s End.
Classy X Book Reviews is doing a whole month of Blogtober. I am loving the everyday posting but my recent favorites are If you Like This then Read That post and the For the Wolf review which looks amazing.
This fantastic round up of Halloween picture books from Erin @ Cracker Crumb Life.
The thriller I won’t be able to bring myself to read, Daughter from Nicki @ The Secret Library Book Blog. It looks too scary for me!
The City of Ghosts book review from Beth @ The Books are Everywhere. I finished this book this past weekend and I agree with all Beth’s thoughts! (I know, I need to write my own thoughts, but if you are curious about the book, she reviewed already!)
Dusk Angel Reads list of Thrillers / Mysteries. I now must get my hands on Meddling Kids.
Meena @ Strawberrys Corner review of R.L. Stine’s Second Evil. There is never a bad time to read Stine.
And I just love Raji @ Worlds Unlike Our Own‘s collection of 7 Thrilling Reads for Halloween.
Tell me, please! What is your favorite part of Halloween?
Thank you for sharing my post and also for all these other new books and blog recommendations!

I wish Halloween was on a Saturday! My daughter’s been off school for two weeks for half term, and they expect her back in the very day after Halloween, she’s going to be exhausted.

The Sunday Halloween thing is such a drag. I do wish the day off were a holiday. The teachers are all going to get some tired and wired kids back on Monday!

I love dressing up! I actually go to NY Comic Con every year which is the beginning of October, so I feel like I already had my Halloween haha!

That is so amazing! When I lived in CLE I used to hit Wizard Con every year and I always wanted to dress up. Sigh. I need to just do it already!

You are so right that anything culty is completely frightening. Slonim Woods 9 was especially terrifying, like truly nightmarish.
I’m glad I could interest you so much in Unbelievable too! It’s one of those I thought I would like but I ended up liking even more than I’d imagined I would 🙂 I’m glad you could get a copy and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Thanks for hosting one of my favorite and most fun reading events 🙂
