Fall into Fall Book Tag 2021

I love everything, everything, about Fall. After the heat of July and the humidity of August I am ready for some relief. By the end of summer I am threatening to burn all my shorts and move to somewhere that has harsh and unrelenting winters if only I don’t have to be hot anymore. Fall is also gorgeous, the bugs all go away, and it culminates with my favorite holiday of them all – Halloween.

For some people, Fall doesn’t start until the leaves change but, for me, it is September. Here in Illinois you can’t count on Fall being any length of time so Fall is a state of mind! With that in mind let us all Fall into Fall this, my first ever created book tag.

FALL INTO FALL BOOK TAG 2021

APPLE PICKING: A Bright Shiny Book on Your Shelf

Starfell by Dominique Valente. This book all but glows out at me from my to-be-read pile and, hello….is that cat wearing a sweater? Yes please.

PUMPKIN SPICE: A book that everyone loves that just doesn’t sit well with you

That’s right – I despise pumpkin spice everything. I hate the smell of it, the taste is overwhelming and all I can think about is the inside of a pumpkin when people talk about it. I’m happy it makes you happy but, no thank you!

Hamnet was the same for me. Everyone out here reading plague books during a pandemic is mystifying to me. Look at all my middle grade books! I’m basically looking for a time machine! Hamnet was beautifully written, a gorgeous story and it made me as sad as the smell of pumpkin spice does. It was not for me.

FALL LEAF TOUR: A gorgeously written journey

In Dolly Parton Songteller, Dolly Parton walks us through her life reflected in her songs. I spent a long weekend reading this book and listening to her music. It was as uplifting and beautiful as the most scenic leaf tour in the world.

PUMPKIN PICKING: A book that reflects the pumpkin you always pick

I have been saving the sixth Enola Holmes book, The Case of the Gypsy Good-Bye by Nancy Springer for when I need a real pick-me-up. This series is wonderful and Enola is exactly like the pumpkin I always pick, perfect on one side for carving and wonderfully weird on the other.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME: A book with a character whose style you admire.

Nancy Drew is my fashion icon. Always put together, always with a beautifully packed lunch and ready to solve those mysteries wearing a coordinated skirt and comfy loafers. I’ve wanted to dress like Nancy my whole life. Every iteration of Nancy (except that CW mess) has just proven to me again and again that she is my style icon.

FALL BEVERAGE: A book that reflects your favorite fall drink

I have a lot of Fall beverage favorites but the one that really comes to mind is the classic apple cider. The sweet non-alcoholic one really only tastes good to me when the leaves are changing and I’m trying to figure out how early is too early to carve a pumpkin.

The Peculiar Crimes Unit books by Christopher Fowler is one of my favorite series that I have let get way (way) behind. I think there are sixteen of them right now! I thought I was half way through all the books but, nope, I think this is where I left off. Actually, it might be The White Corridor. I’m going to buy some cider and find out! After all, what is more fall than murder?

CORN MAZE: A book you can get lost in.

This is the third in the Cassidy Blake installments and after reading City of Ghosts and Tunnel of Bones I know I am going to sit down and not get up until this book is finished.

HOT FOOD: A book you waited all summer to read.

Like roasted vegetables and hot soup, I can hardly wait for the weather to get cold enough for me to wrap up in this spooky story.

There you have it! My first created tag. I’m not big on tagging anyone but if you would like to participate, please Fall into Fall with me!

  1. You reminded me how much I want to read Songteller!! Everything about her makes me happy, and it’s even more appealing to hear that it made for such an uplifting weekend reading experience šŸ™‚ I need to get a copy of it.

And I’m with you, yes, yes, a million times yes to the Nancy Drew style!

  2. I agree, fall is definitely a state of mind! I start as early as August if I’m being honest. I absolutely love this tag, I just did it on my blog! These are such fun questions to answer!
